Poseidon Rising CHAPTER 12 He watched her sleep. She was exhausted and so was he given the ferocity of their lovemaking but he couldn’t let himself sleep. He watched her breathe. He gently stroked her hair. He let his hands drift across her body. She had no idea how much he needed her. During the night she woke up once and seemed to panic until she reached out and touched him. He moved even closer to her then she fell back to sleep. She needed him as much as he needed her. She had just been too damn stubborn to admit it. When she rolled closer to him, he couldn’t stand it anymore. He jostled her and aligned his body with hers. She opened her eyes then smiled. “I fell asleep.” “Yeah but for long enough. We have things to talk about.” “Talk about? Now?” “Well, okay, if you insist, we can let our bodies do the talking. First thing I have to say is this.” He kissed her lips softly. “Now what do you have to say to that?” She smiled then placed her hand on his stomach and moved her had slowly downward. She lingered at his bellybutton. She traced it with the tip of her finger so slowly he felt the anticipation of what would happen next swell within him. When her hand started moving downward again he found himself literally holding his breath. She stopped moving her hand. “So what’s your answer to that question?” He exhaled with a loud rush then tried to get his breathing under control. She was smiling at him with that smirk she used to let him know that she knew how she affected him. It was a challenge he couldn’t resist. This time was going to be slow and easy. He was going to stretch her patience to its limit if she could stand it. But he knew his babe. She wouldn’t be able to stand it. He let his index finger trace her right earlobe slowly as he stared her in the eye. His finger slowly moved inward. She closed her eyes and let her head fall back gently but he’d wouldn’t let her get away that easily. He continued to move his finger. She parted her lips then moved her hand along his thigh. “No talking at the same time,” he whispered. “You can’t hear what people are saying if you are busy talking.” She threw herself on him. Never had been able to resist the earlobe thing. Now who else in the world knew his babe could be turned on hotter than July by a simple earlobe probe? “Mommy,” screamed Starr. “Oh, shit,” whispered Blair. Blair moved off of him, shifted her position then popped up from under the cover pulling at the sheet. “Starr, what are you doing home so early? It’s only 6:00.” Okay this was so wrong but he had to grin. Things couldn’t have worked out better. Starr was going to be so happy to see that she was wrong. Things were going to work out. Slowly he emerged from under the covers into the morning light pouring into the room. It was a good sign. A better day was dawning. He looked at Starr who stared back with wide-eyed surprise. “How did you get here, Shorty?” he asked in phony gruff tone. “I brought her,” said Amanda as she stepped into the room. “She insisted that we needed to come here right away. Had a feeling of some sort.” “How could you, Daddy?” screamed Starr. “I told you. I told you.” She stomped out of the room and he heard her footsteps disappearing in a rush down the hall. Amanda waved her hand. “I’ll check on the little princess. You two seem to have other things to take care of.” Blair groaned as Amanda left leaving the door wide open. She fell back against the backboard as she held the edge of the sheet up to her chin. Okay, he would have to work on Starr a little bit but things were going well otherwise. “I did not mean for this to happen,” said Blair softly. He leaned back against the headboard and rolled his head toward her. “What did you mean to happen?” He couldn’t help grinning. He had forgotten how beautiful Blair was first thing in the morning even with sleep in her eyes and her hair flying in ten thousand different directions because of the things he’d done to her the night before and was planning to do to her again in the early morning. He felt a surge of excitement thinking about the things he had done to her last night and about what he was about to do to her in a few minutes. For a while there he thought he would never see her like this again. He moved his hand along her naked thigh and felt her flesh ripple from his touch. Damn Amanda for not closing the door and locking it. As if on cue Amanda reappeared in the room. “Her Royalness is in a royal snit but she’s okay. Giving some poor stuffed animal a royal ass kicking. Jack is fast asleep in his crib.” “Thank you, Amanda,” said Blair. “No problem. Glad to see you got home safe and sound. Of course, I don’t understand why just because I came on to your boyfriend last night you had to leave with your bees in a bonnet then go after my fiancé.” “Go away, Amanda,” said Todd in a low rumble. “Not in this lifetime. We have things to discuss, Mac. I’ll wait for your cheating behind downstairs.” Todd glared at her. Amanda ignored him and glanced at Blair. “What’s for breakfast, Girlfriend? We all need a nutritious start to the day.” She glanced back at Todd. “And this is some damn day.” Amanda strolled out of the room and slammed the door shut. Todd moved in to kiss Blair. “What exactly is your relationship with Amanda?” “She’s my fiancé, you’re my wife. You win.” Blair harrumphed then moved to get out of bed. He touched her arm gently to hold her back but she kept moving. She pulled the sheet with her and wrapped it around her body. “We need to talk to Starr and it seems you need to talk to Amanda. I hope this didn’t ruin things for the two of you.” “Cut it out, Blair. You know this has all been about you.” “Get dressed, okay. I’ll take a shower in the bathroom in the guest room.” He smiled at her. “You tore my shirt off of me last night. I don’t have anything to wear.” “Ah jeeze,” mumbled Blair. She walked to the closet and he could hear her rummaging through things. Finally, she reemerged with an armful of clothes and tossed something at him. He caught it. It was a Llanview U. School of Business sweatshirt. He studied it for a minute. When he looked up she was gone. Todd knocked on Starr’s door then opened it slowly. She was sitting on her edge of her bed dressed as if for Sunday brunch at The Palace. Her backpack was sitting beside her and portable CD player rested on the other side of her. “Coming in, Starr.” She didn’t move. She frowned and picked up her CD player and slipped the headphones on. He walked over to her, removed the headphones and sat next to her. He put his arm around her shoulders then kissed her on the forehead. He felt her body relax. “Why are so angry with me, Starr?” “I told you not to do it, Daddy. Now it’s all going to happen again.” “I’m happy, Starr. Your mother is happy. I want you to be happy.” Starr jumped up, faced him and leaned forward while wagging her finger. “It won’t last. It won’t. It never does.” “It will this time, Starr. I promise.” He reached out for her and she sighed then sat next to him on the bed. “I’m tired, Daddy. I’m just tired.” “Tired of what?” “I’m tired of having to watch every little thing to figure out when you are going to leave.” “I’m not going anywhere. I promise.” Starr looked at him. “You always say that and you always leave. I don’t want to get used to you being here again.” Todd heard a soft gasp. He turned and saw Blair standing in the doorway. She was crying. His heart sank. This did not look good. Why did everything have be so damn hard?
